seoaudit.com.auCheck a site

How it works

One visit to your site, about twenty checks, one colour. Here is what that covers and what it leaves out.

What it does

You type in a website address. Our server visits that one page, and makes five more small requests around it: the plain http address, the other spelling of the domain (with or without www), robots.txt, the sitemap, and an address that should not exist. That is all. It takes a few seconds, and nothing is stored.

It reads the page the way a search engine first does: the HTML as the server sends it, before any script runs.

What it checks

Can Google list the page?

  • The page is not marked noindex, in a meta tag or a header.
  • robots.txt does not block Google from it.
  • The site is on HTTPS, and plain http redirects there.
  • The www and bare versions of the domain end up at one address.
  • A page that does not exist returns a proper 404.
  • There is a sitemap, and it opens.
  • The canonical tag names the page itself.

Does the page say what it is?

  • A title, between 10 and 60 characters.
  • A meta description, between 50 and 160 characters.
  • One main heading (H1), and headings that do not skip levels.
  • Real text in the HTML, not a page that only appears once scripts have run.
  • Alt text on images.
  • Structured data (JSON-LD) that can be read.
  • A share title and image for link previews.
  • A language on the html tag.

Is it set up to be used?

  • A viewport tag, so the page fits a phone.
  • How long the server takes to start answering, measured from our server.
  • Links from the page into the rest of the site.
  • The size of the HTML and how many scripts hold up the first paint.

What the colours mean

Red means something is stopping Google from listing or crawling the page, or fewer than half of the basics are in place. A leftover noindex tag from when the site was being built is the classic cause, and it is red on its own no matter how good everything else is.

Yellow means nothing is blocking the page, but there are gaps worth fixing.

Green means the basics we can see from outside are in place. It does not mean you rank.

If the site refuses automated visitors, times out, or does not return a web page, you get no colour at all. A verdict we could not stand behind would be worse than saying we could not look.

What it cannot tell you

This is a small automated sample to help get things started. A comprehensive SEO audit is much more involved. This tool does not look at:

  • any page other than the one you typed in
  • what people search for, or whether your pages answer it
  • who links to you, or your competitors
  • how the page looks and performs in a real browser on a real phone
  • your Google Business Profile, reviews or local listings
  • Search Console data: what Google has actually crawled, listed and shown
  • the quality of the writing, which matters more than anything on this list

The limits it uses, such as 60 characters for a title, are rules of thumb. Google does not publish hard numbers, and a page can break one of them for a good reason.

For AI agents

The site has an MCP server at https://www.seoaudit.com.au/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no authentication, rate-limited) with an audit_site tool that runs the same check. Every page is also served as Markdown: add .md to the address, or start at llms.txt.

Who runs it

seoaudit.com.au is run by Clickify Pty Ltd (ABN 38 606 494 375), a digital marketing business in Australia. The tool is free and there is nothing to sign up for. If you would like a person to look at your site properly, Clickify can help.

The fine print

The results are offered in good faith as general information, not professional advice, and without warranty. They come from one automated visit and can be wrong.

When the tool visits a site it identifies itself as seoaudit.com.au/1.0. If you would rather it did not visit yours, block that user agent.
